Vital Care is a non-emergent ambulance and wheelchair transport company that was founded in 2009. We are a privately owned and operated ground ambulance company providing emergency medical services (EMS) to home patients, nursing homes, dialysis clinics, wound care clinics, along with servicing multiple hospitals throughout South Carolina. We have approximately 200 employees throughout our four locations. During the pandemic we are proud to say that we did not lay off a single employee, while adding to our overall personnel numbers. 

The Vital Care EMS Apprenticeship Program is for candidates aspiring to become EMTs and for certified EMTs looking to advance to the Paramedic level of caretaking. Our program enables them to work with us and complete their State (DHEC) and National Registry (NREMT) as an emergency medical technician at a zero tuition, book, and testing cost.  Once they complete the apprenticeship program, participants in good standing may continue their EMS careers with us.

We have begun our second Vital Care EMS Academy in accordance with Apprentice Carolina (SCYARI), and sponsored by Midlands Technical College, located at the Midlands Tech Airport Campus. The first apprenticeship saw 6 candidates become full-time employees, three certified through the NREMT, along with three others scheduled to take the registry exam over the 30 days. Our second sponsored apprenticeship started on September 18th, and currently has 12 employees working toward their EMS certifications. 

One of the great rewards of running an apprenticeship program is seeing the transformation in each of our apprentices. The personal, professional, and technical growth of each individual is visible over the course of the academy.
